Coordinated Conjunction
My smile above and the numbers below sum up this summer that was filled with so many wonderful moments of music and friends. The numbers reflect repetitions and new instances of time spent being who I am with people who resonate with me.
Drum Circle Grand Rapids and my First Sunday Sacred Springs group have grown in number and concept. I am grateful for each occurrence and look forward to future occurrences. I’ve been in so many city parks, and drummed with so many new communities. This summer, every event has been a confirmation of the power of community music and my place as a facilitator of it.
Over the past month or so, I’ve been seeing a lot of blog posts, articles, and videos from friends about the energy of transitions. That feeling of change is inherent in these shoulder seasons as we face logistical shifts in our lives, but summer into fall in particular feels like an introspective pause for me. While my life experience starts to feel the same over multiple years, I have a lot of variation in how these transition moments punctuate the passage of time. Some years they feel like an exclamation point of celebration and acknowledgment. Other years, they feel like an ellipses of vague moments blending in feel and meaning. This year, it feels like a “, and”. This year feels like a change in direction, connected to my past, but with new ideas.
I feel valorized by my community, and I am starting to see how my role is changing.
I am feeling confident in my abilities, and I am seeking new challenges.
I feel so grateful for everything you have taught me, and I’m working on finding ways to return the kindness and spread that knowledge.
